About Bicycle Stock Images

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Martha Retallick earned an economics degree from the University of Michigan. In her early twenties, she set the goal of bicycling through all 50 of the United States. She accomplished this over a twelve-year period.

How did she support this 50-state quest? Many ways, including working in a phone room, as a paste-up person for a book printer, annotating academic books, cashiering and stocking store shelves, delivering university class schedules, washing dishes, and helping to produce a magazine. She also became intimately acquainted with bicycle repair and upkeep. No surprise, then, that she worked at a bike shop in Tucson for several years while honing other skills. She's been active on the Internet and in website development since 1995.

Martha carries this diversified background into her graphic design and photography, which draw on her skills in business, computers, and publishing. Using a journalistic approach, her photography shows people, places, and events as they really are. And not just bicycle-related: this site also shows her work in abstract, construction, event, nature, and travel photography.

Why the bicycle theme? It's been an important, integral part of her life. "During my 1980-92 bike tours, I used one bike, a custom Nobilette," she says. "It held up very well. However, during the late 1990s, I noticed it shuddering whenever I used it to tow my trailer over rough roads. That's a sign of a worn out frame. So, while working at the bike shop, I stripped it down to the frame and fork, which I still have."

In addition to offering stock photography and printer-ready postcard images, Martha is available for event photography assignments in Tucson, Arizona, and elsewhere. She specializes in concerts, festivals, parades, political rallies, and sporting events. To check availability and to request a proposal, please contact her via this website or call 520-690-1888.
